About the Methods:

GYROKINESIS® Method

The GYROKINESIS® method is the origin of the GYROTONIC® practice.  Offering similar benefits also derived from yoga, dance, Tai Chi, and gymnastics, GYROKINESIS® exercise is performed without the aid of equipment, encouraging free-flowing movement combined with rhythmic breath patterns to gently work the entire body.

A typical session begins seated on stools with a gentle warm up to awaken the senses and stimulate the nervous system.  This is followed by a series of exercises taking the spine through its natural elements of movement: arch, curl, right & left spiral, right & left side bend, waves, and undulation or circular.  The postures flow together smoothly without delay and work to increase range of motion while preparing the body for more challenging exercises with agility and ease.  These same movements are expanded through floor work and provide additional opening for hips, knees, ankles, shoulders, hands and feet.  Standing work provides additional stimulation of the cardiovascular system and integration of the mind and body through unwinding.

GYROKINESIS® exercise can provide therapy for those with structural ailments and traumas.  Its energetic nature works to relieve stress tension and emotional traumas like anxiety and depression through its calming and balancing effect on the emotional centers of the body.  A regular GYROKINESIS® practice can also strengthen the internal body, improving the immune system and digestion, cultivating a sense of well-being from the inside out.


GYROTONIC® Method

The GYROTONIC® method is an exercise method performed using specialized equipment in which the body cultivates increased function, capability, and sense of well-being through intentional movement driven by breath, connection, and direction of energy.  Sequences of exercises are designed with spiraling and circular movements to simultaneously lengthen and strengthen muscles and tissues in and around joints.   Specific breathing patterns assist the movements to open energy pathways and create cardiovascular stimulation, neuromuscular rejuvenation, coordination, and fascial conditioning. 

Founder Juliu Horvath designed the GYROTONIC EXPANSION SYSTEM® method to support and guide the body from one movement to the next with even, constant resistance.  This eliminates jarring and potential injury which exists at the beginning and end of exercises performed on conventional exercise equipment.  Because it is fully adjustable, the Professional Pulley Tower can accommodate all body types and levels of fitness as well as provide a safe framework while recovering from injury.

Through regular GYROTONIC® exercise, one can find a balance through all systems of the body and create a spherical, three-dimensional awareness and equilibrium.
